New products & pricing {Mudgee Photographer}

Firstly, please excuse my absence. We’ve had over a month of sickness, first with my daughter and I … a VERY bad cough and fevers (I forgot how bad a fever can make you feel!!), Dr’s thought it was whooping cough but tests came back clear… so it was just a nasty virus. Then it was hubby and our son’s turn 2 weeks later, my daughter and I were only just getting over it ourselves.
And when the boys finally got over it my daughter than caught the gastro bug going around! Ugh!! Thankfully that only lasted a couple days. I can tell you it was SUCH a relief to have a full nights sleep! We sadly missed out on the Mudgee show, the circus and other activities we had planned as we just couldn’t leave the house! Thankfully my kids are pretty good at entertaining themselves.

Ok, so that’s been my life. Fingers crossed that we’ve had our fair share of sickness and it’s over so we can get on with enjoying this beautiful weather we’ve been having here in Mudgee! Absolutely splendid days!

SO… NEW PRODUCTS, NEW PRICING….

Back on topic… I have finally got around to putting together my new package price list for 2011. Prices have changed, but it will be a benefit to you as I am no longer having a separate session fee, the prices listed are all inclusive! I will still require a deposit for holding your session date, but that will come out of the remaining cost.
PLUS… I have some gorgeous new products included in my packages! Including a print box where your prints from your photo session will be matted and ready for displaying, and a new professional quality album, a gorgeous keepsake that you will be proud to show off, plus a quality canvas print now included in my Diamonds & Pearls package (Maternity plus Newborn combo package).

The reason for the new products is that I really want every person to walk away with a top quality product that they can keep forever and display straight away!

I really don’t like the idea of sending people away with a disk in a plastic cover for them only to get cheap prints done at their local convenience store that will only fade or dis-colour over time. They are ok for a while, but the way I see it, if you are going to invest in having some proper photography done for your family, you want quality, and you want it to last.

So all packages will come with professional quality prints and enlargements. All packages have a quality items such as the DVD case that I have been using for some time now or my new albums, photo boxes or canvas prints, depending on your package choice. (All items can be ordered separately as well).

I will have a full list ready tonight, so if you want more info you can contact me using the Contact Me tab.

Oh… and I know I haven’t posted photos for a while now. I do have some photos from the end of the year just before out move that I would like to share, so I will go through and pick a few out later on tonight too. I would also like to say thanks again, to the families who were very patient with me while we moved and getting things set up before I could finish processing.  I do appreciate it. xx

Well for now, that’s all! I will be busy tonight just finalising my ‘digital version’ or my 2011 pricing list and selecting some photos to share.

Melissa. xx

P.S Just one quick one before I go… this is one of my most favourite little girls in the world… isn’t she devine??!

Goodbye Blue Mountains, Hello Mudgee

Hello everyone.

Just a quick note to let you know I have been on a break from my photography.

We have recently made a big move from the mountains to the beautiful country town of Mudgee, NSW.
At this point in time I cannot book photo session for the mountains areas. I will occasionally make a trip back that way and will certainly post it on my blog when I do.

We are a house of sickness at the moment, with my daughter and I unwell. I hope to update my blog in much more detail when we are both well again.

For those lovely Blue Mountains families wishing to organise a maternity, newborn or family photo session in the Blue Mountains, I recommend Memories by Sharon Mallin

Or for wedding photography, please contact Geoff from Still Photography who did a brilliant job for my own wedding.

I hope to be back soon with a few new changes surprises!

All the best!
Melissa.

Isaac

I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely Mum and her handsome 9 week old baby boy Isaac for a photoshoot.
Isaac was an absoloute pleasure to photograph, and to our surprise, was so comfy while posed in my ‘new old’ suitcase that he fell asleep, so we got some sleepy photos!
This little cutie reminded me of my own boy when he was a bub. Such a sweet little snuggle bug!

Some pics!!

Esha

I like to be consistant… that’s why as usual this post is way late! haha  Terrible I know, I should be blogging much more often!

Anyway… let me introduce you to Esha. This is one amazing little girl. She was a good bub for the majority of our session, but what I couldn’t get over was how AMAZING her beautiful eye lashes are!! WOW is an understatment! Her eyes are just so gorgeous too… I felt so honoured to capture some pictures this darling little princess. Her Mummy & Daddy are just so wrapped in her (not hard to see why!), it really was a pleasure to meet this family. xx

This was just a quick candid snap inbetween our posed photos, but I love it.
You can just feel the love between Esha & her Dad.

Mummy’s request!
This was our 2nd attempt at this shot. Esha wasn’t too pleased about it the first time, but a nice feed solved that problem for us! She was perfect 2nd time around.

Another candid snap. Couldn’t help it, I just loved watching them interact.
Sometimes these randome candids capture some of the most beautiful moments.

Seeeeeee???? Amazing, huh!!

Looking forward to my next photoshoot, a 9 week old baby boy! And lots more coming up too! Busy busy busy!

Safety First!

I would like to take a minute to discuss an issue that I feel is VERY important, and one often not expressed by photographers as we often like to keep a few little trade secrets.
The issue is regarding the posing of babies, particularly newborn babies, also known as ‘Baby Art‘, in order to achieve a particular photo.

With digital SLR camera’s becoming much more affordable and the posing becoming more popular too, I find many people attempting to re-create these poses without doing some research or training as to HOW those poses were achieved. This could potentially be dangerous for Bub, and trust me! You do not want to find yourself in a lawsuit because you have injured a tiny baby…. and more importantly, you do not want to live with that on your mind, lawsuit or not!

The example I am showing today is hanging a baby in a ‘Hanging Pod’. But this also applies to hammocks, placing babies on tables/benches, posing babies with their hands under their chin etc.

Photoshop and other photo editing software plays a major role in these images!
They are often NOT as they final result appears!

(Thank you to our handsome little model Charlie!)

Now the majority of these poses are created in one of two ways.

1) Extensive Photoshop Editing.
Like the example I have shown today, this is often one image only that has major editing to remove visible signs of your helpers hands and beanbag or cushioning you may have below bub for safety etc. making it appear as bub is simply hanging. For my example image, you can not see the beanbag I have covered by the black backdrop, but it is there just an inch or two below bub just in case the worst should happen and bub is accidentally dropped. It’s also handy if the helper needs a rest between shots, bub can simply be lowered to the bean bag and supported by the helper. It’s obvious in my example that my helper (in this case bubs Dad) is supporting bub just under his bottom, and holding the top of the hanging pod firmly. Then his arms & hands are cloned out of the image.

2) Composite photos.
This is where two or more shots are taken of the same pose and then blended together to create one images. Often a parent or assistants hand would be supporting the baby one one side for one shot, then another shot is taken with the assistant supporting the other side. The two photographs are then combined & blended in the photo editing program (using the unsupported sides of the images) and will result it what SEEMS to be a baby supporting his/her own head on his/her hands, or perhaps the baby sitting upright on a bench (often in the ‘potato sack’ pose), or for the images where bub appears to be laying un-aided in a bowl on a hall table. Those are just a few examples of where COMPOSITE images may be used.

ALWAYS REMEMBER, BABY’S SAFETY COMES FIRST!

So….

* PLEASE do some research into Baby Art.
* Attend some newborn workshops or perhaps some work experience with a photographer to learn the techniques before attempting them.
* Never hang a baby from a great height! Keep them nice and low with a soft ‘landing’ below JUST IN CASE!
* Always have a spotter nearby for any shot!
* Use an assistant or two to aid in poses where bub may be raised or on surfaces where they could roll off. (Yes, even newborns can roll!)
* Pods, hammocks etc. are PROPS ONLY. They are not for every day use and Bub should NEVER be left unattended with these items!

I hope this can help some of you, whether you are a learning photographer yourself, or a Mum who is worried about seeing a baby hanging mid air!
If you would like any more information on this please contact me.

Thanks for reading.
Melissa.
